In Episode 156 of Mother Earth News and Friends, Dr. Kemba Marshall and Dr. Mike Schlegel join editor Jessica Mitchell to discuss identifying poultry diseases and small herd ruminant diseases, how to recognize them, prevent them, and how to work with your veterinarian to treat them.

Dr. Kemba Marshall received her B.S. in biology from Howard University and her D.V.M. from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing her veterinary degree, Dr. Marshall went on to complete an avian/exotic animal residency at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (Avian). Dr. Marshall has worked in private veterinary practice, university laboratory animal practice and corporate retail veterinary practice.

Dr. Marshall has been a guest editor and first author for publications in the Veterinary Clinics of North America: Exotic Animal Practice and is also published in Blackwell’s Five Minute Veterinary Consult, the American Journal of Veterinary Research and the Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery.

In addition to providing on-farm veterinary support and veterinary technical support for the Purina customer service and sales team representatives, Dr. Marshall is also involved with new product development.

After receiving a bachelor’s degree in animal production from the Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Michael Schlegel earned a master’s degree and Ph.D. in ruminant nutrition from Michigan State University.  Dr. Schlegel also completed a joint post-doctoral research program with the University of Florida’s Department of Animal Science and Disney’s Animal Kingdom Animal Programs in exotic animal nutrition, taught animal science as an assistant professor at Delaware Valley University, and served ten-years as the Director of Nutrition Services at San Diego Zoo Global before joining Purina in 2015.
