Let’s Make It

1. Place the two fabric pieces right sides together and pin down a long (12-inch) side.

2. Sew down that side with the edge of the presser foot on the edge of the fabric.

6. Use an erasable-ink pen to draw a line 1/2 inch from the top folded edge. Extend the line to go from side to side across the entire top.

8. Pin the top folded edge down to hold it in place while you sew.

9. Sew on both lines, making sure to backstitch at the beginning and end.

10. Fold the piece in half with right sides together and pin. Placing the edge of the presser foot at the edge of the fabric and starting just under the second line of stitching, stitch down the side edge and across the bottom of the bag. Backstitch at the beginning and end.

11. Trim the corners–but don’t cut the stitching!

12. Turn the bag right side out and press with an iron.

13. Attach a small safety pin to the end of a length of twine at least 24 inches long.

14. Feed the safety pin through the little casing you created with the two lines of stitching. Go all the way through the casing and bring the pin out through the opening on the other side.

15. Decide on the length of twine you want the finished bag to have and cut the ends even. Tie the ends together with a knot.

Attach a sweet card and maybe a pom-pom or two and you are set!
