Monitor Sugar Water Levels in Your Hummingbird Feeder

Prevent the water levels in your hummingbird feeder from getting too low by implementing this simple idea.

In the past, I made my own sugar water for hummingbirds, and I always added a little red food coloring so I could look out the window and see how much water was left in the feeder. Recently, I ran out of food coloring, so I came up with the idea to cut a small length of red drinking straw and put it in with the liquid. The red straw floats on top, making it easy to see from my window.

If you do this, make sure to cut the straw as small as the narrowest part of your feeder so it won’t get stuck as the liquid levels drop.
