What are you going to speak about at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR?
I’m excited about working with the children in the children’s garden workshop. I love working with my 3-year-old son in the garden. Hopefully we will be able to let kids put hands on seeds, soil and bugs. I’m also grateful to be able to share what I know about compost in my presentation Compost: What You Need to Know. That presentation is all about sharing what I’ve learned about composting all organic kitchen waste and the myriad of ways to look at your waste as a resource.
What are you most looking forward to sharing with FAIR attendees?
My enthusiasm about gardening.
Tell us about your background with your particular topic.
I’ve been producing The Self-Sufficient Gardener Podcast for about two years now. It’s a half hour (roughly) show on iTunes where I try to teach people to garden efficiently, responsibly and sustainably. I’ve been gardening since I was old enough to crawl out to the garden. In fact, my mother gave me a picture of three year old me sitting on the side of the garden while my dad worked it. Being raised on a farm gave me a unique experience of seeing how it used to be done and learning at a very young age.
Why should fairgoers attend your presentation?
I intend to make these things sound exciting and get people excited about gardening again!
How will you get to the FAIR, and how far do you have to travel?
I will be driving from Western Kentucky. It’s about a 10 hour drive.
What are you most looking forward to at the FAIR?
I want to pretty much attend every seminar, class and show. Everything sounds interesting!
What advice do you have for attendees?
Don’t leave your kids at home. We are going to be gardening!
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could have only one thing, what would you choose?
Does my seed collection count as one thing?
Thanks, Jason. We’ll see you at the FAIR!
