When I was a preschooler, I attended a summer day camp hosted by a friend of my mother. I remember mid-morning snacks of grapefruit juice and graham crackers, a steep hill with stone steps, and a tree swing with long ropes. You could get a really wide swing each direction and on the way down your stomach would “drop.” It scared me to death, and I loved it! It probably wasn’t as big as I remember — I was only 4 years old!
Since then, I’ve sat in dozens of kinds of swings, from small backyard ones to tall city-park swings. But none have given me the wonderful flying feeling of that first tree swing experience.
Do you remember your first swing experience? Have you ever built a tree swing? (To learn more read Swing Into Fall With a Tree Swing.) If so, tell us about it in the comments section below.
