Make the most of empty kitty litter containers with these ideas.

We wanted to find uses for cat litter containers because we occasionally buy litter sold in large plastic buckets. We discovered that you can drill holes into the bottoms and sides of the emptied and cleaned containers, and then use them for growing vegetables or invasive plants, such as mint. You can also use the plastic buckets to organize and haul garden materials and compost, sort laundry, or store household items.

Cat and dog kibble is usually sold in heavy paper or plastic bags. After our animals have worked through their personal larders, we reuse the food bags as garbage-can liners. You can use other types of bags and product shrink-wraps to line wastebaskets, too. The wrapping for a four-roll toilet paper package, for example, neatly lines a small wastebasket. Product bags and shrink-wraps are destined for the trash anyway, so why not squeeze one more use out of them and reduce the number of single-use plastic trash bags sent to landfills?
