Getting out in nature can stir up a lot of good memories. While flipping through all the sounds, sights and smells of those memories, do you have one that sticks out above all the rest?
My favorite memory drifts past green pastures and serene blue skies to a muddy, toad invaded pond. After a long, hot hike through the pasture, my brother and I crawled under the fence and raced to the pond. I remember the first time I got in the water, slowly inching my way in, not sure what to think of the plants brushing against my ankles and the mud squishing between my toes. After about a few minutes, though, my brother and I were splashing and exploring that murky water. Along the banks we found bugs skimming across the surface and plenty of rocks made just for skipping. As the sun began to set, the toads came alive. Their croaks sounded a melody that echoed all around the pond. Time stopped as I took in all of the plants and animals in and around the pond that day.
This one adventure and memory led to many more trips to that pond. I even invited my friends along to include them in my nature find. Soon we had logs and rafts to float on and a bridge to make our exploring easier. My one memory led to many more.
