What are you going to speak about at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR?
What are you most looking forward to sharing with FAIR attendees?
I’m looking forward to sharing information that can help gardeners get the most from their gardens.
Tell us about your background with your particular topic.
I’m an associate professor of horticulture at Penn State University. My specialty is horticultural systems management and I focus on organic and sustainable vegetable production. Like everyone else in the vegetable industry, I’ve dedicated my professional life to vegetables. I experiment with them, grow them, help farmers and gardeners grow them and eat possibly more than my share of them.
Why should fairgoers attend your presentation?
My presentations are packed with science-based, unbiased information on using compost and mulches that can help gardeners to be even more successful with their vegetables.
How will you get to the FAIR, and how far do you have to travel?
I’m going to travel the about 200 miles round-trip in my car. We’re making it a family trip so my husband and 2 little girls will make the trip with me.
What are you most looking forward to at the FAIR?
Seeing the animals. Last year my daughter had a blast seeing them. I really enjoyed seeing her delight.
What advice do you have for attendees?
Take a bag to carry all the great things you’ll get while at the FAIR.
If you were stranded on a deserted island and could have only one thing, what would you choose?
Assuming that my family was with me and we had a great garden, I’d take a really high quality mattress – I don’t sleep well on hard surfaces.
Thanks, Elsa. We’ll see you at the FAIR!
