Do you have a special someone to woo on this Valentine’s Day? Rather than the typical box of chocolates or bouquet of flowers, consider the gift that keeps on giving: heirloom seeds! In addition to providing us with wonderful flavors, stunning beauty and the genetic diversity needed for agricultural sustainability, their beautiful and unique names offer us a clever way to delight our Valentine gardeners. So let some of our heirloom seeds do the talking for you! Here are a few great examples cooked up by the crafty Seed Savers Exchange staff.

First of all, make sure to tell that special someone just how much you lovage them…

a bunch of yellow sunflowers

…and how they’ll always be your Valentine Sunflower

bunch of green beans laying on top of black beans

or Black Valentine Bean,

line of pea pods on a table

because you’ve been struck by Cupid’s Arrow!

green herb with yellow tipped stems

And what Valentine’s Day is complete without a Bouquet of flowers,

pink china rose radishes

or China Rose Radish,

brown sweet chocolate peppers

a box of Sweet Chocolate,

small round candy tomatoes

or some Candy?

heart of gold melons with one cut in half

So prove to your Valentine you have a Heart of Gold

orange, yellow, and red garden sunshine peppers

by treating your Garden Sunshine

pile of green empress beans

like an Empress,

candlelight peppers growing on a bush

with a romantic Candlelight dinner,

sunset runner bean plant with pink flowers

while watching the Sunset.

purple flame lettuce

Finally, turn what was once your Flame,

red king of the north peppers

into your King

dark green table queen squash in a basket

or Queen,

four emerald gem melons with one cut in half

by giving a precious Gem, or,

pile of purple diamond eggplants

dare we say- a Diamond?
