Here in the rural Southeast, I sometimes have a problem with mice nibbling on my garlic and onion sets before I plant them in fall. I had a few cricket cages left over from my fishing expeditions, so I put the garlic and onion sets inside the cages to protect them from the mice.

It worked like a charm!
