Creative Nesting Boxes

Your chickens’ nesting boxes don’t need to be fancy or expensive. Here’s how to find affordable nesting boxes without breaking the bank.

| February/March 2015

Whenever my wife and I visit yard sales or a flea market, we keep an eye out for cat litter boxes with lids. They usually sell for a couple of dollars. We give the litter boxes an extra scrubbing at home, and then use them as nesting boxes for our hens.

We find that they’re easier to keep clean than wooden nest boxes, and they’re cheaper, too.
