Ducks and geese suitable for use as livestock come in so many varieties there isn't space here to show all of them. Pictured from L to R are the Pekin duck, Sebastopol goose, and Rouen duck.

So you’re thinking about raising ducks, or raising geese, or ducks and geese? Good for you! You’re doing your part to revive a tradition that was fairly common at the turn of the 20th century but has since waned. Our grandparents and great-grandparents would have known a lot about the practice, notably what duck breeds and goose breeds were tolerant of cold weather or matured quickly or produced an abundance of eggs. To help you along, we’ve compiled an Illustrated Guide to Ducks and Geese with all of that baseline information.
