Allison Ehrman, Northern Maryland Gardener and Food Preservationist
Name: Allison Ehrman
Occupation: Knowledge Manager and Technical Writer
Residence: Northern Maryland
Background: Allison Ehrman works in the corporate world, but her heart and soul reside in her country home. She and her husband, Steve, purchased a house with two acres in Northern Maryland in the summer of 2018 and are in the process of making it greener while designing and building a large garden from scratch. This marked something of a rite of passage in their lives as their youngest son moved off to college shortly after. With both of their sons in college, Allison and Steve are adjusting to a quieter life in an empty nest, but are gradually filling their time with all the satisfaction and excitement country living offers.
Allison loves to grow and preserve herbs and vegetables using a variety of techniques, and preparing gourmet and exotic dishes from locally-sourced foods is her favorite activity whenever she can’t be outside. She also loves creating natural cleaning and body care products, singing and playing a variety of musical instruments, and crocheting every chance she gets. She has a certification in Positive Psychology and volunteers her time at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Harford County. She has studied Buddhist philosophy for almost 20 years and has a daily meditation practice.
Current Projects: Installing a geothermal system, preserving produce with lacto-fermentation, designing and building a large garden in incremental steps, designing a kitchen-friendly landscape, cooking with local foods, creating cocktails with local ingredients, making natural cleaning and body care products
