Top Crops for Gulf Coast Gardening

Successful Gulf Coast gardeners emphasize crops that naturally grow well, which was clearly shown in our  National Survey of Most Productive Garden Crops. Choose your favorites from the list below as foundation crops for your garden. These vegetables received the highest ratings from fellow organic vegetable gardeners in the Gulf Coast region. Additional options found on the Recommended Crops list are sorted by plant family. Gulf Coast gardeners must be especially cautious with nematodes, which are best managed with resistant varieties and good rotations.

Lynda, it's not your fault! Long days make lettuce bolt, and intense sun makes spring difficult for cool-season crops. Take heart. You can still plant okra, sweet potatoes, field peas and watermelon. Then a whole new season starts around Labor Day...

Hi I'm getting discourged my romaine lettuce bolted and flowered, don't know why? My carrots were aweful. And my celery just didn't taste right and very stringy and very tall. What do I do? HELP Please!!

Just a short question about the crops you say is time to plant here: Sweet corn should be on this list but isn't. It is too warm to have any cool season crops put in the ground now and I just wondered where the answers come from. We now have consistent 80 degree weather.
