Shiitake mushrooms are some of the easiest mushrooms to grow on logs outdoors, and this kit makes it even easier for indoor cultivation!

Just add water and place anywhere in the house that is room temperature (60-70F), frequently misting to produce flushes of beautiful fleshy caps. Typically yielding 2-3 pounds over several weeks, this kit has directions and a humidity tent to make indoor harvests easy and fun. Perfect gift for foodies, gardeners, chefs, and science fair projects.

  • Edibility and taste: Meaty and Savory
  • Fruiting Temps: 60-70F
  • Availability: Year-round

Because each mushroom kit is freshly packed to order, please allow 10 business days to ship your order. This item is available year-round and for shipment to continental U.S.A addresses only.

Good, but log is long and the kit needs more troubleshooting info

The instructions were easy to understand, but not simple to follow. It took no small doing to find a clean container large enough to soak the log. If the same log were cut in half and sent as two smaller logs, it would easily fit into common kitchen equipment - and be easier to find space for. Don't tell mom what I did with her large baking pan (ssshhhh!).

I got a very small first flush (6 caps), and, when they came, they started off coming out at the bottom of the log. I turned it over, and they seem happier now. I did accidentally (once) mist with a dilute orchid food solution. Is that the problem or something else? Do they need more light? Was my jumbo-sized zip-lock back not enough clean water for the soak? The caps I got are beautiful and tasty. I'll try more light, and no orchid food, on my second flush. I'll see if I can find a clean enough 5-gallon bucket for the soak.
