    You will learn 4 basic clay techniques for making: texturing and overlaying, using molds, twisting and basic caning, along with lots of sub-skills like conditioning clay and mixing colors. For each technique, I will demonstrate several options for applying the technique, then allow time for participants to choose ONE of the options and create their own button. We will bake as we go, and participants will leave with 3-4 finished buttons, and if time, a matching brooch or earrings.

    Learn to needle felt by making a cute little bunny. Needle felting uses needles with tiny barbs on the end to catch fibers and tangle them with other fibers to produce felt. This method can be used to make 3D sculptures. In this needle felting class learn how to sculpt core wool and angora rabbit fiber into the shape of a simple bunny. The class will include 1 felting needle, 1 felting pad, core wool, angora fiber, and instructions.

    The scope of the class covers using natural plant dyes to dye yarn. Participants will have hands on experience mixing dyes, mordants, and modifiers. Washed fleece and sample skeins of yarn will be provided.

    Dyes used may include, onion skin, Pokeberry, Marigold, tree barks, black walnut, turmeric, assorted green herbs and weeds, avocado, black beans, and others. The availability of dye material at the time of the workshop will determine which dyes can be used. Every effort will be made to produce a range of beautiful shades of color from nature.

    Each participant will have samples and written materials to take home after the session.

    While nothing used in the class is inherently dangerous, any substance can be irritating to eyes and lungs when used as a dye. Safety goggles and masks will be provided. If you are sensitive to plant materials, aluminum, washing soda, or vinegar, please note that these substances will be used in the class.

    This class will feature a basic introduction into Oxford Punch needle rug hooking. Simple for beginners and fun for those that may already be familiar with punch needle rug hooking. We will be creating this quick little Pumpkin ornament using hand dyed wool rug yarn and the size 10 regular Oxford punch needle. We will finish the ornament in class. Kit will include pattern on monk’s cloth, yarn and embellishments. Frames and Punch needles will be available for class use and purchase.
