A best-selling writer of fiction, non-fiction, and essays during the first half of the twentieth century, Harold Bell Wright was a self-taught man who founded permanent churches in Missouri, California and Kansas. He taught his religious principles through his many novels, which address moral and social problems.
This trilogy gathers together for the first time Wright’s three novels featuring the character Dan Matthews, based on Wright himself. The Shepherd of the Hills, originally published in 1907, is Harold Bell Wright’s most famous work. The shepherd, an elderly, mysterious, learned man, escapes the buzzing restlessness of the city to live in the Ozarks. In the sequel The Calling of Dan Matthews, Dan Matthews becomes the new minister of the Midwestern town of Corinth. He battles his conscience about whether to be the spiritual puppet of the church elders or to prescribe a dose of heavy ministry to his ailing congregation. In the third novel, God and the Groceryman, Wright makes a plea for God’s presence in all aspects of life and offers a criticism of churches run as morally bankrupt businesses. This novel is a call for the modern church to return to spirituality.

Once we could fill our grocery carts with cheap and plentiful food, but not anymore. Cheap food has gone the way of cheap oil. Climate change is already reducing crop yields worldwide. The cost of flying in food from far away and shipping it across the country in refrigerated trucks is rapidly becoming unviable. Cars and cows increasingly devour grain harvests, sending prices skyrocketing. More Americans than ever before require food stamps and food pantries just to get by, and a worldwide food crisis is unfolding, overseas and in our kitchens.
We can keep hunger from stalking our families, but doing so will require a fundamental shift in our approach to field and table. A Nation of Farmers examines the limits and dangers of the globalized food system and shows how returning to the basics is our best hope. The book includes in-depth guidelines for:
The book argues that we need to make self-provisioning, once the most ordinary of human activities, central to our lives. The results will be better food, better health, better security, and freedom from corporations that don’t have our interests at heart.
This is critical reading for anyone who eats and cares about high-quality food.

All Hopped Up Bitters features a floral hops flavor with cinnamon and birch accents. Similar to Mockingbird Meadows’ Hoppy Tummy variety, this formula is infused in vodka and tastes more like an IPA. Bitters are used to help balance the digestive system. Description Most traditional bitters contain herbs that encourage contractions, making them unsafe for pregnant women. By contrast, these are uniquely pregnancy safe. Of course, you don’t need to be pregnant to enjoy All Hopped Up Bitters … but we’re excited to offer you an option for good digestion if you are. What Are Bitters? Bitters can help you to balance your digestive system+. Traditionally, you would use them to increase the absorption of nutrients during digestion, but you can also use them to curb your sweet tooth. The bitter flavor encourages your gall bladder, liver, and stomach to produce appropriate levels of digestive juices. Sadly, the American diet is severely lacking in the bitter taste that your body needs to maintain a properly toned digestive system. This leads to a lack of assimilation, acid indigestion, reflux, constipation, and much more.. How to Use Put 15 drops of All Hopped Up Bitters on the top of your tongue 15 minutes before each meal for best results. Ingredients: Alcohol, hops (Humulus lupulus)*, dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)*, birch (Betula spp.)W, gentian (Gentiana lutea)*, orange peel (Citrus sinensis)*, and cinnamon (Cinnamomum spp.)*. 2 ounces. In this age of climate change, killer germs and obesity, it's easy to feel as if we've fallen out of sync with the global ecosystem. This ecological anxiety has polarized a new generation of Americans: Many are drawn to natural solutions and organic lifestyles, while others rally around high-tech development and industrial efficiencies. Author Nathanael Johnson argues that both views, when taken to extremes, can be harmful, even deadly.
Johnson, raised in the crunchy-granola epicenter of Nevada City, Calif., lovingly and rigorously scrutinizes his family's all-natural mindset, a quest that brings him into the worlds of an outlaw midwife, radical doctors, renegade farmers and one hermit forester. Along the way, he uncovers paradoxes at the heart of our ecological condition: Why, even as medicine improves, are we becoming less healthy? Why are more American women dying in childbirth? Why do we grow fatter the more we diet? Why have so many attempts to save the environment backfired?
All Natural*: *A Skeptic's Quest to Discover if the Natural Approach to Diet, Childbirth, Healing, and the Environment Really Keeps Us Healthier and Happier, the book that resulted from Johnson's explorations, is a sparklingly intelligent, wry and scrupulously reported narrative. Johnson teases fact from faith and offers a rousing and original vision for a middle ground between natural and technological solutions that will assuage frustrated environmentalists, perplexed parents and confused consumers alike.
