The scope of the class covers using natural plant dyes to dye yarn. Participants will have hands on experience mixing dyes, mordants, and modifiers. Washed fleece and sample skeins of yarn will be provided.
Dyes used may include, onion skin, Pokeberry, Marigold, tree barks, black walnut, turmeric, assorted green herbs and weeds, avocado, black beans, and others. The availability of dye material at the time of the workshop will determine which dyes can be used. Every effort will be made to produce a range of beautiful shades of color from nature.
Each participant will have samples and written materials to take home after the session.
While nothing used in the class is inherently dangerous, any substance can be irritating to eyes and lungs when used as a dye. Safety goggles and masks will be provided. If you are sensitive to plant materials, aluminum, washing soda, or vinegar, please note that these substances will be used in the class.
All FiberFest classes are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
