Learn to needle felt by making a cute little bunny. Needle felting uses needles with tiny barbs on the end to catch fibers and tangle them with other fibers to produce felt. This method can be used to make 3D sculptures. In this needle felting class learn how to sculpt core wool and angora rabbit fiber into the shape of a simple bunny. The class will include 1 felting needle, 1 felting pad, core wool, angora fiber, and instructions.

The scope of the class covers using natural plant dyes to dye yarn. Participants will have hands on experience mixing dyes, mordants, and modifiers. Washed fleece and sample skeins of yarn will be provided.

Dyes used may include, onion skin, Pokeberry, Marigold, tree barks, black walnut, turmeric, assorted green herbs and weeds, avocado, black beans, and others. The availability of dye material at the time of the workshop will determine which dyes can be used. Every effort will be made to produce a range of beautiful shades of color from nature.

Each participant will have samples and written materials to take home after the session.

While nothing used in the class is inherently dangerous, any substance can be irritating to eyes and lungs when used as a dye. Safety goggles and masks will be provided. Irena Hollowell, Gryphon Corpus, and Sappho Heavey will show you how to clean seeds you’ve harvested in your garden for good germination rates and shelf life. This workshop focuses on the threshing, winnowing, and screening of seeds that mature in dry pods or seedheads (such as beans, okra, and lettuce), and you'll have the chance to try your own hand at winnowing. Hollowell will also briefly touch on the fermentation of seeds that mature wet. These methods are applicable to seeds of flowers and herbs, as well as vegetables. Take home handouts and seed samples.
