I decided to put my baking skills to use and give my brother-in-law something meaningful for his birthday, without having to spend money on something he may not want.
On his birthday I gave him a box of chocolate chip cookies with a note congratulating him on his special day, and letting him know that for the next six months he would receive a cookie of the month as the rest of his gift.
Each month I baked something different, keeping in mind that some cookies are better suited for shipping, such as biscotti and cookies with low butter content. I carefully packaged the cookies as soon as they cooled, wrapping them in plastic wrap and then placing them in an airtight container. Then I quickly shipped them so they would arrive as fresh as possible.
As a bonus, I kept a couple of cookies from each batch for my husband and me, so we too enjoyed a monthly gift of homemade cookies.
