The Odwalla beverage company launched its Plant a Tree program back in 2008 as part of a commitment to reforestation and preserving our nation’s state parks. Each year they donate money to buy trees to plant in participating state park programs at $1 a tree. Since the program was established, they have donated 160,000 trees.
This year, in conjunction with America’s State Parks, Odwalla will donate 200,000 trees, double their usual amount, to be planted in parks across all 50 states. From May 25 to August 15, visitors to their new website can decide where one of these trees will be planted by clicking on their state on an interactive map. In addition, a portion of the trees will be donated to 13 participating state park programs as allocated by codes that can be found in State Park Welcome Kits. Both processes are entirely free of charge. Facebook users can also spread the word to their friends and encourage them to donate a tree through the website to receive a virtual micro-forest planted in their name.
“It was great to see the overwhelming response to the Plant a Tree program in its first two years and we’re delighted to be able to expand its reach to all 50 states in 2010,” says Christ Brandt, Odwalla’s VP of marketing. “Odwalla began with a simple vision to make great juice, do good things for the community and build a business with heart. The Plant a Tree program is just one of the many ways we are able to recognize this vision today.”
