If a sudden freeze threatens my favorite plants?–?especially those in large pots?–?I use a fleece throw as a cheap and easy protective cover. Fleece is light enough that it doesn’t harm plants yet heavy enough to stay in place, plus it washes and dries quickly and stores easily between uses. Fleece sold by the yard is often on sale at incredibly low prices.
