The deer pressure is starting to feel like a threat for the first time this year. Our solution is 5 foot high chicken wire where in some places another 5 foot high fence is only 9 feet away, which usually makes a deer think twice before jumping somewhere he or she can't jump back out of and also functions as a pasture area for our flock.

We made some progress on organizing the barn, and Anna summed up our recent golf cart modifications in an informative post titled "How to add a pickup bed to a golf cart".

Our recent building project went smoothly and we learned a few porch building tips along the way.

Anna Hess and Mark Hamilton are having a great year homesteading in Southwest Virginia. They earn a living by making and selling a new kind of chicken waterer that brings industrial poultry technology to back yard chicken flocks all across the country.
