Just in time for back-to-school shopping, a swanky new desk accessory dubbed “The Rhombin,” is merging sustainability with convenience and cutting-edge design. The Rhombin is made from plant-based plastic (bioplastic) instead of traditional plastic, which rhombin 2is harmful to the earth and perpetuates dependency on foreign oil. The bioplastic is made by a company called Cereplast, a leader in converting plants into plastic. Bioplastics are biodegradable and compostable, made from renewable resources including corn, tapioca, potatoes, sugar and algae.

The Rhombin reflects growing consumer demand for green products that don’t sacrifice style. Created by renowned San Francisco-based industrial designer Eric Pfeiffer, the three-piece set offers a modular design with the ability to be arranged in numerous configurations as a desktop organizer.  The colors can be mixed and matched and can be used as individual rhombin 1pieces or as a “circular” three-piece object. In addition to being made from eco-friendly materials, the Rhombins support America’s economy – they’re US manufactured in Petaluma, California. The Rhombins retail for $29 and the first batch will ship in August. Pre-ordering is available online at http://theutilitycollective.com/rhombins.html.
