Jesolo Sunbed

Cristian Urban for Recession Design

The design for the Jesolo Sunbed was the designer’s response to the basic concept of mobility and utility. Based on a wheel hand trolley with wooden slats that fold away, the sunbed is both easy to transport and simple to understand. By adding a notch in one of the corners its functionality is furthered, creating the perfect holder for your bag while you rest. A Velcro strap can be added to secure the panels while wheeling the sunbed to your favourite location.

The sunbed gets its name from the town near Venice where the designer was born and where he spent part of his youth on the beach with his friends. The project reminds him of those times: ‘For me the design of the bed is a project that is part of my best years, it is the place of the sun’s journey of love but also to say goodbye. The sunbed at the beach has always conjured up the idea of a holiday which was then enriched with a broader meaning that is the discovery of life. The seascape, the sun, the beach, the beauty and youth that is soon gone. That memory of a sunset on the beach and being kissed by a last ray of sunshine.’

You will need:

• Hand trolley with two 260mm diameter pneumatic wheels, capacity 200kg
• Two wooden handles that fit the over frame. Beech is recommended.
• Two brass piano hinges 20x500mm (parts C)
• Wood panel 25 x 1210 x 1210mm. Fir or birch plywood recommended.
• 28 screws, 24 to attach the hinges, 4 longer screws to attach the frame to the plywood. These need to be long enough to go through the frame and into the board about two-thirds of the way.

• Drill
• Saw
