Do You Remember Your First Swing? Have You Built a Swing?

When I was a preschooler, I attended a summer day camp hosted by a friend of my mother. I remember mid-morning snacks of grapefruit juice and graham crackers, a steep hill with stone steps, and a tree swing with long ropes. You could get a really wide swing each direction and on the way down your stomach would “drop.” It scared me to death, and I loved it! It probably wasn’t as big as I remember — I was only 4 years old!

Since then, I’ve sat in dozens of kinds of swings, from small backyard ones to tall city-park swings. But none have given me the wonderful flying feeling of that first tree swing experience.

Do you remember your first swing experience? Have you ever built a tree swing? (To learn more read Swing Into Fall With a Tree Swing.) If so, tell us about it in the comments section below.

I use the plans at WWW.EASYWOODWORK.ORG to build my own DIY projects – I highly recommend you visit that website and check their plans out too. They are detailed and super easy to read and understand unlike several others I found online. The amount of plans there is mind-boggling… there’s like 16,000 plans or something like that for tons of different projects. Definitely enough to keep me busy with projects for many more years to come haha. Go to WWW.EASYWOODWORK.ORG if you want some additional plans :)

My boys (now men) always teased me because I always wanted a "kids" swing big enough for these buns. It's great exercise! And an easy escape, keep on swingin'

I suppose the first swing I remember was when I was about 5 and my parents got me the standard metal playset of the 80's. Not so eventful, but it was mine! We built a very large tree swing for our boys when we bought the farm. My husband made the seat 18" wide and about 10" deep so it's a very generous size for parents and kids. We've had 3 little boys on all at once! There are nuts and bolts connected to an upside down V shape where the chain is held. The chain goes up 10-15'! Quite a ride for any one, swing therapy.
