Taylor Goggin, Tropical Gardener and Plant-Based Recipe Blogger
Occupation: Organic gardener, tropical homesteader,plant-based foodie, writer, student for life.
Residence: Miami, Fla.
Background: Raised in the metropolitan area of Miami Beach, Fla., Taylor never expected to turn suburban, homesteading junkie in her early 20s. During her time obtaining her BA in Tallahassee, she volunteered on a local farm which was her first real taste of horticulture. She experienced how cooperative organic farming was better for our health, environment, and communities. After graduating, she immersed herself in the World-Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) program on the Hawaiian Islands. By working on various farms, including Pacific Science Institute Maui, Coconut Information, and Honest Greens Oahu, she acquired knowledge regarding sustainable living and farm operations.
Working-trading on farms transformed Taylor’s relationship with homegrown food and, after returning to Florida, she in turn transformed her vacant backyard in Miami into a tropical homestead. Papaya, banana, avocado, fig, tomatoes, and medicinal herbs are the main crops she harvests from her active space. Taylor’s mission is to further educate herself within the horticulture community and help people connect to their food, the land, and community.
Current Projects: Taylor is working to obtain her Master’s degree abroad while looking for community gardens to get involved in, as well as herbal communities to join. Along the way, she will be learning how to live sustainably in a foreign city and utilizing the space she has to apartment garden.
