Antonette Vasseur, Birth Doula

Background: Antonette pursued a Womens' Studies degree at Towson University, and was President of the Towson campus Womens' Studies club. Antonette has also volunteered with Feminist Majority in Washington, DC. After the birth of her son, she began studying towards her Birth Doula certification through Birth Arts International. Antonette is currently a birth doula and office assistant for a local Midwifery practice and enjoys working closely with such compassionate and dedicated midwives. She has two children, one who was a VBAC born safely at home into the arms of midwives. She helped to create Maryland Families for Safe Birth and has been working to legalize midwives in Maryland.
Personal History: Antonette married her husband on her friend's farm in beautiful Shepherdstown, West Va. She has two children, Baylin and Evangelina, and is expecting Baby No.3 in late summer 2012.
Current Projects: Antonette has been a birth doula for over 5 years. She was one of the original founders and served as Vice President for Maryland Families for Safe Birth, a non-profit organization working to legalize Certified Professional Midwives in Maryland. She co-presented at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS Festival in Seven Springs, teaching the Homebirth & Midwifery Workshop. She currently contributes to the MOTHER EARTH NEWS Home Birth and Midwifery blog.
Other Fun Facts: Antonette enjoys knitting and sewing. She is currently expecting her third child and planning a homebirth in late July. Antonette is looking forward to her first attempt at a garden this summer.
