Megan Hirt

Megan hails from Topeka, Kan., and graduated from the University of Kansas in 2008 with degrees in Journalism and French. She first entered the world of MOTHER EARTH NEWS in summer 2007 as an editorial intern. In March 2009, she began working for the magazine as a full-time editor, and continued in that capacity for a number of years. Her primary duties at the magazine included copy editing magazine content, overseeing articles in the renewable energy beat, managing the MOTHER EARTH NEWS Facebook page, and putting together two departments in the magazine.

While at the University of Kansas, Megan won second place in the nation in the Hearst Foundation’s intercollegiate in-depth writing competition for her story A Sobering Struggle, which profiled college students battling alcoholism.

In her free time, Megan enjoys blogging (albeit quite infrequently) and also works as a freelance copy editor. She has copy-edited two books: Balancer, a young-adult science-fiction novel, and Finding Grace in an Imperfect World, a collection of spirituality-based meditations.

Aside from writing and editing, Megan’s favorite things include France, the French language, psychology and brightly colored scarves.
