The center piece of any bedroom sanctuary is, of course, the bed. Of all of the furnishings in your home the bed is the one you will spend the most time in and which will have the most impact on your health and well-being…so choose wisely.

A healthy bed will have many of the same attributes as a healthy home. It should be:

• able to take on moisture and then dry-out without supporting dust or mold

• easy to clean and sanitize

Please help! I bought a bed for my son that had a particle board base. After two years is started gassing. My son's room smelled like particle board and I had to get rid of the bed. I bought a solid wood bed but the matress, the side that was on the particle board absorbed the smell. I washed the cover and aired out the mattress (high end hybrid foam) but the smell is there. I am worry about my son's health. Is there any solution to get rid of the smell without buying a new matress?

Hi, this has been a great post providing some guidance on building an open concept box spring. Please let me know which non-toxic glues you'd suggest, or if white carpenters glue is ok. Thank you www.schmancysniffles.com

More and more people are converting to sleeping in a hammock full-time! A hammock is a better alternative to a bed than even a green bed. Just hear me out... 100% recycleable hammocks are widely available, take up less room in your house and certainly in a landfill than a bed, the are better on your back, spine, legs, and entire body due to even weight distribution, rid back aches and previous lifelong injury pain, you can easily vacuumed under them, and can purchase 100% organic cotton, hemp, bamboo versions. Hammocks do not require being made like a bed does, they free up more space in a room, they don't create environments for bugs or pests, they are 20 times easier to pack up and move when changing residencies, can be swayed with a gentle push of a toe for a nice rocking effect, and they are relaxing!! An amazingly comfortable silnylon hammock can be purchased for $60 on average. I recommend cottage manufacturers: Wilderness Logics, Jacks R Better, Warbonnet, Arrow Head Equipment and companies like ENO...Eagle Nest Outfitter and Hennesy. These are not those flimsy netted things that are easily made to fall out of. Thiese are some seriously stable with robust quality, made in the USA (with a few cheaper foreign exceptions :P ) For expert hammock information, checkout http://www.hammockforums.net.
