Get to know John Noska.

What are you going to speak about at the MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR?

At the FAIR in Seven Springs, I am going to speak about our Solar Passive Tipi lodge, the components that comprise the different aspects of solar passive in our design and the workshops in our tipi lodge starting in early November, that will be a show and tell of the working lodge as well as teachings from several Native American Nations teaching the importance of learning an alternative way to the collision course our culture is presently headed. It does not matter how good the alternative energy or how good being back to the earth is, if our hearts are not changed.

What are you most looking forward to sharing with FAIR attendees?

I am most looking forward to sharing how the simple life can be illustrated in a survival habitat, such as the tipi lodge and how it can be extended into every part of our daily life. We have to learn how to take many small vacations every day in our lifestyle to counter the schizophrenia prevalent in our culture.

Tell us about your background with your particular topic.

My background with this topic was learned some thirty plus years ago in both products and the designing and building of solar passive homes with a contractor I worked for. Applying these teachings to the tipi lodge was nothing more than an extension of my spirit to the Cheyenne Way. I am a Northern Traditional dancer and I believe the time is ripe for people to discover the beauty and simplicity of the Native American Way. Thirty years ago, after a conference on alternative energy where I was asked to speak, a representative of the oil industry told me that my comments on the advantages of solar energy were "horse manure." I told him be patient, in 20-30 years alternative energy will be back with a vengeance.

Why should fairgoers attend your presentation?

If any fairgoer is looking not only for the latest engineering which would lend itself to alternative energy, we are also looking for those fairgoers who recognize technology by itself is out of balance these days. Through our workshops we hope to impart the balance with Native Spirituality, so people can learn to slow down, be at peace within themselves and spread that spirit with others.

How will you get to the FAIR, and how far do you have to travel?

We are from eastern Pennsylvania (Bechtelsville and Myerstown) and 4 hours from the fair.

What are you most looking forward to at the FAIR?

Selling our pictures of 100+ year old native Americans from different nations and signing people up for our one-day workshops here in Bechtelsville, starting in early November.

What advice do you have for attendees?

Come prepared to be open to learn.

If you were stranded on a deserted island and could have only one thing, what would you choose?

To have a faith in My Creator to supply all my needs according to His wisdom.

Thanks, John. We'll see you at the FAIR!
