I love cookie recipes that have no wheat flour. Oats are low GI and a very good source of soluble protein and fiber for your dog. Oat flour is made from ground oats and is a popular gluten-free option. This is one of the recipes that Lily has to fight me for! These cookies are a very healthy treat and a particularly good way to give your dog some added fiber. They are ideal as a midmorning snack.

Oatmeal Dog Cookies Recipe

Ingredients:

• Vegetable oil for greasing
• 2-1/4 cups (250 g) oat flour
• 1-1/4 tablespoons oil or fat, such as chicken fat or beef drippings
• 1/4 cup (50 ml) boiling water (optional)

Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F/180 degrees C. Lightly grease a cookie sheet.

2. Place the oat flour in a bowl and make a well in the center to pour the liquid into.

3. Put the oil into the well, or if you are using a hard fat, such as chicken, spoon it into the bowl and pour the boiling water over the fat to melt it. Stir with a knife or spoon and it will quickly form a dough.

4. Lightly dust a clean work surface with some of the remaining oat flour and turn the dough out onto it. You can either roll out the dough to around 1⁄2-inch (1 cm) thickness or just flatten it into shape with your hands.

5. Cut the dough into small pieces or use a small cookie cutter to cut it into discs. Place the discs on the cookie sheet and bake for about 20 minutes.

6. These cookies will keep for up to 2 weeks in an airtight container.
