Moonshine Whiskey and Alcohol Consumption in American History

In order to better understand alcohol’s role in historical American life, one person attempted to drink like a Colonial American for one day.

In 1770, it’s estimated that Colonial Americans each drank approximately 6.6 gallons of pure alcohol per year. As of 2011, consumption per capita is now 2.28 gallons of pure alcohol per year.
