Instead of putting farm-fresh eggs directly into water to make hard-boiled eggs, try steaming them for 30 minutes. After steaming, chill the eggs in ice water for a few minutes before peeling. The shells will fall right off!

Before I learned this trick, I just used the oldest eggs because the shells were supposedly easier to peel. It takes a little longer to steam rather than boil the eggs, but not throwing away half an egg because it’s stuck to the shell is worth the time. I’m surprised this trick isn’t more widely known. In my opinion, it’s the best way to cook hard-boiled eggs.

Eggs cooked in a solar oven are very easy to peel. Tear off the cover of a cardboard egg carton and set the bottom half with eggs into the oven. With good sun it takes 45 minutes to an hour and a half, with oven tempuratures of 300 to 350 degrees. To test for doneness, spin an egg on its side. If it spins easily without wobbling, it's done. Allow a few minutes to cool down and they peel easily. The added benefit is that this method uses no fuel other then the sun and no water resources.

I've done this two times, once with only four eggs and last time with eight eggs. It really is a great way to prepare hard-boiled eggs! I only steam for twenty minutes and then cool at room temperature. Even after a week in the refrigerator, the steamed eggs are very easily to peel and there is no waste! Thanks for the tip, Kerry.

For farm fresh eggs to peel easy all you have to do is crack the egg slightly before putting them into water. They will peel easy for you every time. Try it you'll like it!

I'm convinced there is no easy way to peel eggs, only more patient egg peelers. I mangle eggs while my wifes, fromthe same batch are pretty much perfect. Using our big spaghetti pot,we put cold eggs in salted cold water to cover a dozen eggs, bring it to a boil, cover and set aside for a 1/2 hour. Then we drain the hot salted water, refill with cold tap water (our water is private and comes from deep in the ground from glacier melt so its very cold from the tap). We let them sit till the eggs are cool and then we peel them. Oh, and we have always heard that fresh eggs peel easier than not fresh eggs. Never heard anyone say old eggs peel better. Anyway, point is I don't peel any more because my eggs are only fit for develing while hers are all perfect...pretty much.

For fun (and the kids' delight): take a cooled hard boiled egg, make a tiny hole at each "end" -- and then blow hard into one of the holes... the entire egg [usually] will pop out the other side! Tata! A shelled egg. (note do NOT try this with a soft boiled egg for obvious reasons)

Or just boil them normally, then put them in ice water. A lot faster works the same

So how long do you steam them? My daughter-in-law puts her eggs into a pot and covers them with faucet cool water with a tinge of salt. She brings them to a rapid boil then shuts the heat off and lets them set a few minutes until she can put her hand in the water. She them cools them further until she can handle them and they peel like a 'easy to peel' orange. She says she learned that from her mother.
