Of the many homes we’ve featured in Natural Home & Garden over the years, Alma Hecht’s wonderful cottage in San Francisco holds a special place in my art. Her renovation of a tiny cottage built for laborers after the Great Earthquake of 1906 is meticulous, and Alma—who owns Second Nature, a sustainable landscape design business—takes the art of creating a beautiful home to a new level.
Alma recently sent me a link to watercolors she has painted, including several of her cottage. She reminded me that a good home inspires great art. And we all need beauty.
Look closely at the whimsical fountain made from watering cans on the patio behind Alma. Her watercolor of this contraption is below.
From her dining table, Alma finds plenty of creative inspiration.
The two watercolors below were inspired by the view looking out over her deck.
