Salem, NH – The CD Recycling Center of America announced that it has chosen the United States Postal Service as its preferred shipping partner for incoming shipments of CDs and DVDs submitted for recycling. Since its grand opening on Earth Day 2007, the Center has received thousands of packages and has recycled millions of CDs and DVDs. The CD Recycling Center realized that with thousands of pending incoming packages, it needed to direct its many supporters to the best environmental choice for shipping discs into the center.

Post industrial and distribution discs are generally shipped to the Recycling Center via LTL and truckload freight, from record companies, movie houses and replication plants. But it is the thousands of individual packages that are being submitted by consumers and small businesses that need to be directed to use the best carrier with environmental sustainability accolades.

Lisa Bennett, President of the CD Recycling Center states, “We are so proud of our disc recycling program and how large it has grown. The mail-in option is working well for our thousands of supporters that recycle their discs, and realize curbside recycling does not properly recycle the #7 plastic that CDs and DVDs are manufactured from. We have zero landfill waste here at the center, and we can achieve this by focusing just on CDs, DVDs and related packaging. Curbside cannot properly collect, sort, store and process a few dozen, hundreds, or even thousands of discs. Since we collect millions, it is very easy for us to successfully recycle them.”

Bennett continues “I feel the USPS is absolutely the best environmental choice when directing our supporters on how to submit their discs for recycling. The USPS's go green momentum and sustainability record has proven to utilize every measure possible to limit their environmental impact on Planet Earth. With the USPS’s Click-N-Ship program, a consumer can purchase postage, print a label, and even have their mailman pick up the package from their home or office. The USPS will also provide free, very environmentally friendly boxes for mailings using their priority mail service.”

Tom Rizzo, Corporate Communications Specialist for the USPS states “We applaud The CD Recycling Center for their worldwide efforts to help the earth’s environment. We are happy that our green Priority Mail packaging can facilitate this wonderful disc recycling initiative. As the recipient of dozens of environmental awards, the U.S. Postal Service agrees that what’s good for the planet is also good for business.”

It is no doubt that recycling unwanted, obsolete or damaged CDs and DVDs is an environmental must. When compacts discs are placed in the trash, they end up in either a landfill or an incinerator, and that is harmful to the environment. When discs are recycled properly, it will stop unnecessary pollution and conserve natural resources – namely oil. The plastic used in compact discs can be recycled into other everyday items, including household products, building materials, and auto parts.

The disc recycling service offered by The CD Recycling Center is free of charge. The only cost is the postage to mail the discs to the center. The center will also accept cases and other disc packaging as well. The center does require that all components of the disc packaging be disassembled prior to submitting them. Proper disassembly includes separating the disc, case pieces and any paper inserts. For those consumers or companies that do not have the time or resources to disassemble their discs and packaging, a disassembly service is available for a small fee. The center also offers the service of immediate disc destruction for those companies that follow strict security guidelines. Larger organizations, such as record labels, require a certificate of destruction, which the center provides in addition to following a zero landfill protocol by making sure all pieces are recycled post destruction.

The CD Recycling Center asks companies that use compact discs to promote their business to be environmentally responsible and promote disc-recycling awareness, and to educate the end users of their disc product proper end-of-life recycling instructions. They encourage everyone to visit their website, www.cdrecyclingcenter.org and learn how easy it is to implement disc recycling instructions on products they release. The CD Recycling Center provides use of their disc recycling logo, suggested plans, promotional materials, and a place to send the discs for recycling, all for no charge.

The Compact Disc Recycling Center, founded in 2006, provides consumers and companies education, consultation, awareness and options for proper CD and DVD recycling, with a location to send the discs to.
