Country Lore: Repel Rascally Raccoons

By Lois Norris

I had problems with raccoons getting into my sweet corn until I planted squash between the rows of corn. The raccoons do not seem to like the prickly feel of the squash vines and leaves on their feet.

I planted butternut squash, and by the time the squash was ready to harvest the corn was done and some of the squash vines had grown up the corn stalks. This made it easier to harvest the squash.

Now I have all the sweet corn I need and plenty to share.
