Natural Remedies for High Cholesterol
Dr. Linda B. White
People with borderline high cholesterol can combine vitamins and
garlic with a healthy lifestyle to further reduce their risk of
heart disease.
- B vitamins: Niacin (also known as vitamin B3) is the
most potent natural drug available to combat bad cholesterol, many
doctors say, by reducing 'bad' cholesterol (low-density
lipoproteins) and increasing 'good' cholesterol (high-density
lipoproteins). Folic acid, vitamin B6 and B12 can help keep
homocysteine levels (that contribute to anthersclerosis or
hardening of the arteries) in check, as well.
- Garlic: This herb has been called the ultimate herb for
preventing heart attack and stroke. Overall, garlic has been showed
to lower cholesterol by about 12 percent. How much is enough? From
one to two cloves daily, up to 10 cloves ? or as much as your
palate and digestion (and friends) can handle.
