NATIONAL MAGAZINE HONORS EIGHT TOWNS FOR SUSTAINABLE INITIATIVES
Mother Earth News reveals 2014 ‘Great Places You’ve (Maybe) Never Heard Of’
TOPEKA, Kan. (Sept. 3, 2014) – What makes a city or town great? If you ask 100 people, you’re bound to get 100 different answers.
With this challenge in mind, Mother Earth News names its annual “Great Places You’ve (Maybe) Never Heard Of.” Mother Earth News, the nation’s leading magazine dedicated to sustainable living, features eight communities in its October-November issue, on sale Sept. 23.
The Great Places list serves as a way to recognize cities and towns that show positive civic engagement, invest in the local economy and develop meaningful environmental initiatives. Nominations come from Mother Earth News readers, social media communities and staff.
Mother Earth News selected these cities as its 2014 “Great Places You’ve (Maybe) Never Heard Of”:
- Ashland, Oregon
- Beaufort, South Carolina
- Bozeman, Montana
- Burlington, Vermont
- Evanston, Illinois
- Lincoln, Nebraska
- Penns Valley, Pennsylvania
- Sparta, Tennessee
“Each of these cities faces unique issues and enjoys a distinct personality, warts and all. Improvement is a process, and we give props to people who work together to make their communities better,” says the article’s author, K.C. Compton, senior editor for Mother Earth News.
