Bee-a-thon documents plight of pollinators
Mother Earth News
joins Your Garden Show to spread the word about bees’ role in our lives

TOPEKA, Kan. (July 13, 2011) — Bees pollinate one out of every three bites of food we consume, making them essential to human survival. Yet, pollinator populations face hard times ahead.

On July 16, Bee-a-thon 2011 will give people worldwide an opportunity to learn about the role bees and other pollinators play in the food system, and how to help their dwindling populations. Bee-a-thon 2011 will run from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Pacific time.

Featuring experts on pollinators and the environment, the Bee-a-thon will bring together a worldwide audience in an online town hall-style presentation. A live chat will let viewers voice their questions and concerns while exploring ways to help bee populations this summer. The event also will kick off the Great Bee Count, a Citizen Science project involving gardeners across the country who will report and track pollinator populations.

Mother Earth News will air Bee-a-thon 2011 through Your Garden Show. A new online feature on the magazine’s website, Your Garden Show helps users connect with other gardeners, share their triumphs and troubles, find unique ideas, and explore gardening trends, regardless of their experience level. Your Garden Show features an interactive log to help gardeners track the growth and methodology of their own gardens while learning from others’ techniques. Users can share photos and videos to glean inspiration for garden projects. The Bee-a-athon was created by Your Garden Show and the Great Sunflower Project.

RSVP here to participate in Bee-a-thon 2011, and download several types of widgets to create more awareness of the event.
