Washington Tilth Association Announces Six One-Time Farm Tours
Organic farming and gardening tours introduce omnivores to their food

PUYALLUP, Wash. (May 2, 2011) – In preparation for the Mother Earth News Fair, June 4-5 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, the Washington Tilth Association will host six Puyallup-area farm tours on Friday, June 3.

The tours include:

  • Meat Tour – Direct Marketing and Small-Scale Meat Production
  • Why Buy Local Tour of Orting Valley Farms
  • Snoqualmie Valley Farms Tour – The New American Farmer
  • Organic Vegetable, Small Fruit Production and CSA Tour
  • Small-Scale Dairy Tour – Cows, Goats and Sheep Dairies
  • Season-Extension, Hydroponics and Winery Tour.

“The public is hungry to eat local,” says Cheryl Ouellette, coordinator for the tour. “They’re starved for relationships with their farmers, and this local farm movement is a powerful way to connect with the people who are growing the food.”

Each tour costs $60 per person, which includes bus fare, lunch catered by PCC Natural Markets, a stipend for participating farmers, gratuities, taxes and a donation to the Washington Tilth Association. Tours begin at 9 a.m. Friday, June 3 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds and return to the Fairgrounds at 4 p.m.

Tickets are available for pre-order online at http://bit.ly/FarmTours. Only 100 seats will be sold per tour, and tickets will not be sold on-site.
