Mother Earth News Fair covers gamut of self-sufficiency and green living topics

TOPEKA (July 21, 2014) — Want to grow and prepare your own food, raise backyard chickens, or “green” your next remodel … but aren’t sure how to get started? Maybe you want to cut your utility bills and need to know if renewable energy is for you.

Then mark your calendar for the Mother Earth News Fair.

Mother Earth News, the largest and longest-running publication about self-sufficient lifestyles, will hold its Mother Earth News Fair Oct. 25-26 at the Kansas Expocentre, One Expocentre Drive. The Fair runs from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

“After hosting successful Fairs across the country, we can’t wait to share this experience with our hometown. Whether you want to explore ways to extend your food budget or make your own solar panels, we have something for the whole family,” says Andrew Perkins, the Fair’s director.

Attendees can take in more than 150 hands-on workshops that cover organic gardening, food and food preservation, renewable energy, homesteading, small-scale livestock, green building and remodeling, natural health, green transportation, and related topics. Local and national experts on sustainable and rural lifestyles will lead the sessions.

In addition, the Fair will host children’s activities; heritage-breed livestock; craft, vendor and livestock demonstrations; dozens of vendor booths; and local and organic food options.

Tickets cost $15 for 1-day passes and $20 for the weekend until Aug. 25. At that time, tickets will increase to $20 and $25, respectively, and they will remain on sale at that price until Oct. 20. Prices at the gate will be $25 and $30, respectively. Children 17 and under get in free. The event also will offer a limited number of VIP tickets. VIPs receive priority seating at workshops, catered meals and other perks.

To purchase tickets, inquire about exhibiting or check programming, visit or call toll-free 800-234-3368800-234-3368800-234-336.
