GARDENING, SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE AND ENVIRONMENTAL EXPERTS TO SHARE SOLUTIONS
Mother Earth News Fair keynote speakers bring unique perspectives and practical advice to Puyallup event

PUYALLUP (April 29, 2013) – Experts from across the country will provide insight into many of today’s environmental issues – and offer solutions – at the 3rd annual Mother Earth News Fair June 1-2 at the Puyallup Fairgrounds.

Actor, activist and author Ed Begley Jr., details the changes he has made to “green” his life and shows how others can do the same by finding environmentally friendly resources and communities. This keynote is presented by Envirolet.

Joel Salatin uses his organic Polyface Farm as a case study to help part-time farmers tackle the uncertainty and many steps of transitioning to a full-time enterprise. Salatin gained fame when Polyface was featured in the New York Times best-seller The Omnivore's Dilemma and Food, Inc.

Woody Tasch, founder and chairman of the nonprofit Slow Money, shares how millions of small acts by investors, philanthropists, farmers, entrepreneurs and concerned consumers can invest directly into small, sustainable food enterprises to rebuild the economy from the ground up.

Heirloom seed movement pioneer Gary Paul Nabhan tackles ways to produce less resource-intensive food in climates that are getting hotter and drier. Nabhan will suggest climate-friendly crops, pollinator-attracting plants and soil management practices to survive heat spells and drought.

Barbara Damrosch will show how to grow and store a year-round produce supply – with less time, garden space and work. Damrosch has been called “queen of organic growers” by The New York Times, and writes the weekly “A Cook’s Garden” column in the Washington Post.

Other keynote presenters include Albert Bates, Sherri Brooks Vinton, Dan Chiras, Linda Gilkeson, Lloyd Kahn, Bob Moore, John Navazio and Bryan Welch.

The Mother Earth News Fair is a family-oriented sustainable-lifestyle event. It features more than 150 practical, hands-on demonstrations and workshops from experts on gardening, cooking and preserving food, renewable energy, small-scale agriculture, green building, green transportation, and natural health.

The Fair also will host an herb display, children’s activities, an American Poultry Association-sanctioned show, vendor and livestock demonstrations, a green shopping pavilion, and local and organic food options.

Tickets cost $20 for the weekend or $15 for a one-day pass, or $35 and $25, respectively, at the gate. Children 17 and under get in free.

To purchase tickets or check programming, visit MotherEarthNewsFair.com or call toll-free 800-234-3368.

The Fair is sponsored by Bob’s Red Mill, Brinsea, Botanical Interests, CeCe Caldwell’s Paints, Ford Motor Co., King Arthur Flour, Mary’s Gone Crackers, Mountain Rose Herbs, Nature's Flavors, Purina, Rub with Love, and Theo Chocolate.
