Planting seeds

Seed Swaps are a time-honored and fun community tradition that help preserve plant biodiversity for generations to come — what a great activity for our first MOTHER EARTH NEWS FAIR taking place Sept. 25 and 26.

Bring your best heirloom veggie or other unique saved seeds to the Seed Swap area in front of the main MOTHER EARTH NEWS stage in booth E57 and E61, and trade your goodies with other gardeners and farmers. Everyone will be able to take home some great new varieties, and enjoy the camaraderie that only a community seed swap can bring. Plus, anyone who donates seeds will receive a free, recycled-plastic MOTHER EARTH NEWS tote bag!

I LOVED the seed swap! I made sure to bring my Long Pie pumpkin seed I saved. I had a sandwich bag full of them and swapped/shared half the bag. Very excited to see how this Texas Indian sweet corn comes out. I also was able to get more Rattlesnake pole beans which the crows almost destroyed my last few seed left( they attacked the plot and I had to replant twice, leaving me with just 5 seeds for saving! I had never experienced such bird ravishing as that year. Goes to show you should always save a few years worth for these exact kind of incidents). I have many others but will not bore you...or would it be considered bragging to those who were unable to attend?! Anyway, so happy I had read about the swap before I went. It was fantastic. I do hope they will continue it at all the events. It truly is a great way to add more variety to the saved seed box & garden. Tammie The Unusual Farm Chick
