If you’ve never started seeds indoors, and aren’t willing to see if this strangely warm weather holds out for the entire summer, you need a place to plant. There are two easy options that I have found. The easiest for me was to make a seed starting shelf. First things first, you will need a few supplies: a simple shop light, a 40 watt light bulb for the light, 2 pieces of chain, S hooks, and a shelf of your choice.

Don’t worry about getting anything too fancy. I picked a deeper shelf, but have other things to put on that shelf. Also, the shop light is 48″ long and the shelf is only 36″ long. I am prepared to deal with that, because the longer shelf was MUCH more expensive. You could definitely buy a different shelf that fits the light more exactly.

Yeah, sure, assembles in 2 minutes.  Many, many minutes later, the shelf was assembled. Due to the nature of the shelf I picked out, I can attach S hooks to the bottom and adjust the height of the light as the plants grow.
