Gardening Guide app

Update: Our Food Gardening Guide resource — previously available only as a stand-alone app — is now available within the MOTHER EARTH NEWS library app. Already own the Food Gardening Guide? We recommend our new, updated version. To get it, simply download the MOTHER EARTH NEWS library app from the iTunes App Store or Google Play. The Food Gardening Guide will appear in your new library app's store. Both the library app and Food Gardening Guide resource are free.

More about the Food Gardening Guide:

Gardeners, rejoice! You can now have all the gardening info you need right out in the garden on your mobile device. MOTHER EARTH NEWS is excited to announce our Food Gardening Guide resource, which provides detailed information on growing many major garden crops, including tomatoes, peppers, corn, onions, garlic, spinach, squash, melons, radishes, lettuce, potatoes, carrots and many more. The Guide provides loads of expert advice and it’s easy to use. Simply tap on a crop, and find out all the essentials about growing it in your garden: how to plant, when to plant, how to prevent pests and diseases, types and varieties to try, how to save seeds from the crop, and more.

In addition to crop-specific advice, this resource also provides thorough information on several gardening techniques, including watering, crop rotation, garden fencing, cover crops, transplanting, improving your soil, vertical gardening and many more. Just tap on a category, and you’ll get all the info you need. For example, tap on “Wise Watering,” and get the breakdown on all things watering, including soaker hoses, harvesting rain water and mulching to retain water.

And the cost of the Food Gardening Guide resource? Free!

MOTHER EARTH NEWS has long been a trusted voice in the gardening world, and we’re thrilled to offer our gardening know-how in this new format. We’ll update this resource anytime we have new crop-specific or technique-specific gardening articles to share.

Whether you’re a new gardener or have been workin’ in the dirt for years, you’ll learn helpful tips from the MOTHER EARTH NEWS Food Gardening Guide resource, available in the MOTHER EARTH NEWS library app. Currently available for download in the iTunes App Store and Google Play. Plus, check out our full app collection!

Happy growing!

Thank you all for your thoughtful insights!

The Food Gardening Guide no longer exists as a stand-alone app. We had noticed that this version was glitching for some of our users. To provide a better user experience, we have incorporated the Food Gardening GUide into our brand new MOTHER EARTH NEWS library app. (Both the app and Food Gardening Guide are free!) This content is currently available in the iTunes App Store and Google Play for applicable phone and tablet devices. Just search "mother earth news" in one of these app stores.

As an added bonus, the new Food Gardening Guide has been updated with several new crops, including information about our favorite varieties and how to grow them.

The blog above has been edited to express these new developments.

We hope to make the Food Gardening Guide available to as many readers and device users as possible in the future. Check our main apps page (linked to in this blog) for updates.

The comments on this blog will be monitored in the future. Your questions and concerns help us provide the best products possible, so please continue to share your thoughts.

Best wishes from the MOTHER EARTH NEWS app team!

When will you update or add to the articles on the garden guide? I've read them all and still refer to the adds here, they're great, but look for new material. I also have the canning guide, but don't see the value of the chicken guide, personally. Every hatchery, blogger, and magazine dealing with chickens has ample information. I would like to see a general livestock guide app. Or possibly one for sheep, one for cattle, one for geese, and so on. I'm going to buy a pair of geese soon and would like more information on care, housing, diseases, parasites, and interaction with other animals, etc. Excellent magazine/apps! Thanks.

We would love to see this on an Android as well! I am an editor for TheRecapp.com, an app review site. We actually just posted a review of the Food Gardening guide app for the iPhone in our 4 Essential apps for springtime, you should check it out! http://www.therecapp.com/app_living/scenario/4_essential_apps_for_springtime/

MotherEarth news! Seriously...eight plus months, and there is still no droid app? Why would mother earth news patronize a company that is so notorious for being proprietary and censorous? Open sourced OS phones, such as droid, ect are more than twice the marketspace of its Ipad/phone competitors. For the "rest of us," please make the conversions to offer this to droid users. Sincerely, a MEN subscriber

How about the same application for PC/Mac? Not everyone has or needs a fancy phone. If you've gone to the trouble of creating a phone app, it shouldn't be that difficult to convert it to (probably *back to*) a computer application.

The app sounds really nice, and I would love to see it, but I have a Windows-7 phone. Please consider making usable for my phone, and others who have Windows_7 phones.

Yes to Android version!!! Mother Earth News - stop making iPhone only apps. You really need to release your apps for both platforms simultaneously or release the Android version first. Android OS accounts for almost half of the world's smartphone users - a bigger market than iPhone and windows phones combined!

so, what about us folks who don't have an iphone? i don't have an android phone, either. i kind of feel like iphones and fancy gadgets aren't exactly part of the "simple life" i'm striving for. i have the least expensive touch phone (samsung) from the least expensive provider (cricket) i could get. but i'd still like to access this app.
