I previously had trouble with raccoons eating my cantaloupe before they could ripen. Now, to deter the raccoons, I buy the cheapest pantyhose I can find and put the small cantaloupe inside it before the melons start ripening. 

The pantyhose stretches as the melon grows. Now I can enjoy my vine-ripened cantaloupe.
