The Imported Brown Marmorated Stink Bug

The imported brown marmorated stink bug has become a serious problem in many homes and gardens across the nation. Accidentally introduced to the United States in eastern Pennsylvania, the stink bug feeds on a wide variety of host plants.  Its menu includes apples, peaches, figs, mulberries, citrus fruits, soybeans and more. The brown marmorated stink bug becomes a nuisance both indoors and out when it’s attracted to the outside of houses on warm fall days in search of protected, overwintering sites.

We have created a comprehensive stink bug survey in order to gain a better understanding of this pest’s behavior.  We hope to learn where this pest is most common, the types of landscapes that it prefers, and the stink bug traps that are most effective. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
