The Aquaponics Association is offering three days of education and inspiration for aquaponic enthusiasts, home gardeners and commercial farmers. The organization’s annual conference will be held on September 21–23, 2012 in Denver, Colorado. The notable lineup features presentations, lectures and workshops by Dr. James Rakocy, formerly of the University of the Virgin Islands, renowned researcher Dr. Wilson Lennard, author Dr. James Ebeling, Olomana Gardens’ Glen Martinez, DIY video icon Murray Hallam, as well as other aquaponic experts and educators from around the country. This year’s conference will take place at the centrally located Sheraton Denver Downtown Hotel. Also available to registrants is a tour package featuring stops at four Denver-area aquaponic farms. Conference registration, daily schedules and vendor information are all available online at the organization’s web site:

“This year’s lineup is just amazing,” said Gina Cavaliero, Chairman of the Aquaponics Association. “We have something for every aquaponic enthusiast, whether they are just exploring aquaponics, starting out or have been gardening or farming for years.”

“Last year’s conference was the event of the year for aquapons,” said Rob Nash, who attended the 2011 event. “Between the farm tours and the speakers, the information obtained was priceless.”

Aquaponics is a unique, synergistic growing technique in which fish and plants are grown together. The fish waste feeds the plants using organic hydroponic techniques. The plants, in turn, clean and filter the water that returns to the fish environment. Aquaponic gardening requires less than 10% of the water used by traditional soil based growing methods and can sustainably produce food that is 100% organic, without cause for pesticide or mercury concern.

The Aquaponic Association, established in 2011, focuses on promoting the benefits of aquaponic growing and educating consumers and food safety officials about the inherent safety of aquaponically grown food.
