The Arbor Day Foundation has developed a new smartphone application to make identifying trees easy for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users. The new app, Arbor Day Tree Identification Guide: What Tree Is That?, is based on the foundation’s acclaimed tree identification guidebook.

By specifying a few basic characteristics of a tree, such as leaf size and shape, users will be able to identify it using the app’s user-friendly, step-by-step approach.

The app features the original Arbor Day guide’s advanced botanical illustrations of the many distinctive characteristics of more than 250 tree species found in North America. These detailed illustrations show natural colors, shapes and textures, making tree identification a breeze. The “What Tree Is That?” app is $4.99.
