Photo of the Week Natural Restoration

I thought the watching the planet regenerate and bloom was a great way to celebrate Earth Day. When a wild fire sweeps through a forest, scalding and destroying the natural life as it blazes through, nature doesn’t call it quits. In time, the land restores itself. Thankfully, this doesn’t just happen on Earth Day, it happens every day.

This photo taken at in the Mount Jefferson Wilderness Area in Central Oregon shows the new life springing up after a wild fire. The small growth is starting to fill the land with green. The photographer comments on the great hiking available in the area as well. That sounds like a great way to get out and enjoy nature. If you live in this area, check out this hiking guide from the United State Department of Agriculture Forest Service. Find other forests with help from the Forest Service. Plus, you can get maps to the locations you desire to visit.

Once you decide where you are going, check out Hassle-Free Backpacking to learn the easiest ways to make your hiking adventure more enjoyable.

So I encourage you to go out and enjoy the planet on Earth Day, but don’t stop there. Enjoy the Earth every day!

Thank you CU photographer mrsroadrunner for submitting your photo this week. Visit mrsroadrunner’s Mrsroadrunner Gallery to see more nature photos from hawks to flowers. She has great captions with the photos so you can learn about each image.

Please continue submitting photos! The CU Photos don’t just go on the web; they can end up in the print magazine, as well.

Keep submitting your photos every week to the CU photo-sharing site. Each week the Photo of the Week is taken from that week’s submissions. You have to submit every week for a chance to be the Photo of the Week! But you could see be featured in the magazine sometime!

Remember to fill out the captions and give your gallery a name all its own. The more we know about an image, the more we can take from it. I know I enjoy reading about the different animals, especially when they all have fun names.
